Nightlife in Amsterdam is nothing short of legendary and so it's hardly surprising that the city has been a firm favourite with stag and hen groups for so many years. Not just one for the boys anymore, this Dutch city of fun, decadence and diversity is the ideal place to let your hair down on your perfect hen night. We have a great selection of options on offer, so you can't fail to pick something that you and the girls will love, whether you go for a guided bar crawl given by an English-speaking local, roll the dice at a glitzy casino or head to one of Amsterdam's best nightclubs for guestlist nightclubbing!

Your guide to hen nights in Amsterdam

Bars and Pubs

There are countless places to get a drink in this vibrant, varied city. Small, quirky, cosy pubs line the streets primarily, offering up walls full of draught and bottled Belgian beers and of course, the local brew, Heineken. Cocktail bars are a little more difficult to find, but if you know where to look, some real gems are there for the taking. Vesper Bar on Vinkenstraat is elegant and modern and keeps the local stylish clientele in delicious cocktails made with the finest spirits. Adorable 'high tea' inspired drinks are available on Sunday afternoons and yummy cakes accompany cocktails in teapots every evening. So cute! The Okura Hotel's bar is the last word in sophisticated drinking elegance when visiting Amsterdam. It's pricey, but worth it for an exquisite, personalised tipple with your bride to be, all served up by an immaculately dressed white-gloved waiter.

Alternative Amsterdam

Okay, so there's a pretty big party culture going on in Amsterdam, but if you and the girls fancy a break from the booze one evening, there's still plenty on offer. Even though art museums may be shut at night, there's no need to be indoors, as Amsterdam has such a thriving street art culture going on. There are incredible, colourful artworks by some of the world's finest spray-paint botherers to be seen on every corner of the city.

Getting Around Amsterdam

The centre of Amsterdam is pretty small and very flat, so getting around on foot is easy and pleasant. When you have a little further to go, pick up an 'OV-chipkaart' from any station and load it up with Euros and then take the tram or metro around the city. Plenty of handy night buses run too, which are perfect after the clubs or even pick up a rickshaw and be pedalled to your destination in style! All of our accommodation in Amsterdam is located either centrally or close by to a metro or tram station, so getting out and about at night will be easy-peasy.

Amsterdam All Nighter

Clubbing in this famous city really is second to none and there's a wide variety of venues and music options to choose from, so you'll be able to keep everyone in the group happy! Famous DJs often man the decks, getting the crowds going with everything from well-known pop songs to techno and hip-hop as well as cheese and more electronic sounds like dubstep and trance, not to mention the countless music festivals that light up this party city year round. Head out to Rembrandtplein, a square packed with great bars and lively cafes, or for something a bit different, the Latin Quarter has a great range of pubs and bars. The red light district and Leidseplein are both fantastic party spots too. You're guaranteed one of the best nights out of your life in Amsterdam, with many clubs staying open until the sun comes up and beyond.

A Taste of Amsterdam Hen Nights

Many Eastern restaurants line the streets of Amsterdam, as a nod to the country's colonial past. Hit up Damstraat for budget but yummy eats, such as Lebanese falafel and salad, Nieuwmaekt for the Amsterdam's answer to Chinatown and find pretty much any cuisine you can think of in the Haarlemmer Neighborhood. Dutch sweet treats are incredible, so make sure you try out the city's famous whipped ice cream and huge almond cookies and cakes. Edam cheese is an obvious and delicious choice, as well as traditional smoked sausage and croquettes and if you're feeling brave, give a raw herring a try too. If uncooked fish isn't quite your bag, then let GoHen organise a fun, tasty and top value group-pleasing meal for you and your girls to get you all set up for a great night out on the tiles!
