A Guide To Your Isle of Wight Hen Weekend

Where to Drink in Isle of Wight

After a day of adventure, you'll be needing a drink! There are pubs and bars dotted all over the island, so when the thirst hits there'll be a pit stop nearby to cosy on up by the fire to dry up any hair and warm up some toes.
In summer you're in heaven, with good old English pub gold dispersed around every I.O.W town. There's a lovely selection of ale-houses and seaside bars in Cowes, or artisan establishments down Union Street in Ryde.
Newport also has the cute-factor whether you fancy a chilled evening in a traditional pub or some class in a glass at a hotel cocktail bar!

Sights & Sounds

Seeing as you're on an island, there are plenty of sunny beaches to enjoy during your stay, the biggest of which are Ryde and Appley. There's plenty of room to play beach games here, so if you're a dab hand at volleyball or ultimate Frisbee then game on hens! If the bride-to-be's had a little too much wine the night before, you can rest your weary heads on one of the quieter beaches like Shanklin, Sandown or Ventnor - just hope for nice weather!

The island's party-goers all flock to the Isle of Wight's premiere nightclub The Balcony. This place is always buzzing on a weekend, and there are plenty of big tunes for you to throw shapes to until the early hours of the morning. This funky venue is on the top floor of a bowling alley, so you can even hit the lanes for a bit before making your way upstairs...GoHen did!

Best Shopping Spots

The Isle of Wight might be separated from the mainland, but that doesn't mean that it's escaped the vintage fashion craze that's currently sweeping Britain. The island's style icons all flock to the coolest retro-boutiques on a regular basis to keep up-to-date with what's hot and what's not in the world vintage fashion - and on your big weekend, you can as well!

With Love Betty - Discover a treasure-trove of pre-loved clothes that aren't quite ready for retirement just yet. Find yourselves an absolute bargain in this retro-chic shop and give some of the best wears from yesteryear a new lease on life!
Where? 1 Watchbell Lane, Newport, PO30 5XU

Dig for Vintage - If you love unique-looking threads, then this is the place to go! Its a little paradise for vintage-loving hens that has some delightfully chic bits and bobs that could add a groovy twist to your wardrobe!
Where? 17 Pier Street, Ventnor, PO38 1ST

Getting Around Isle of Wight

This beautiful land is certainly worth seeing on foot, and you should certainly encourage the girls to walk as much as they can - there are few places in Britain as enchanting as this. However, if you're travelling to a different part of the Isle then there's an extensive bus network (Southern Vectis) that runs between the main towns and resorts. You can buy either a Rover or Freedom ticket to save you from foraging for coins in your purse!

Hen Days

The Isle of Wight is full of the kind of activities that makes any big weekend with the girls memorable! Whether you're looking for all-out action or a little rest and relaxation, there's something on this gorgeous isle for every hen. Surfing, Horse Riding, White Water Ribbing and Go Karting are all suitably thrilling options, while our Afternoon Tea, Yacht Charter and Mobile Pamper Parties will ease away the anxieties of even the most stressed-out bride-to-be! Hen Nights

When the tide rolls in the girls come out! The Isle of Wight always has great vibes on an evening and the hen party fun doesn't have to stop after sundown. There's plenty of high quality Restaurants for you to enjoy with your nearest and dearest, as well as a plethora of vibrant Pubs and Bars staying open until late to provide the islanders with a good time - all you've got to do is throw on your best party frock and let the fun times roll on!

It's time for a hen party in Isle of Wight!

The Isle of Wight is the island to visit for a hen weekend. Sunny beaches, chilled water sports, and a small but powerful nightlife means that the island has everything you need in one easy place... and since the Isle of Wight is the second smallest county in England, at just over 23 miles long and 13 miles wide, absolutely everything you could need is in easy distance. The island is even technically an overseas destination, which automatically gives it a certain degree of hen do kudos... though we'd be careful about selling it like that to the ladies, in case they all turn up with passports and sun cream in hand.

Why: Reasons to celebrate an Isle of Wight hen party

As a visitor, you're technically a grockle but hen weekenders are rarely referred to in this way, in fact the Isle of Wight's waiting for you to get the absolute best from the island's 1467 square miles. There are several areas to base yourselves in, from internationally renowned Cowes, where the annual sailing regatta is one of the busiest events on the south coast to Ryde, to the capital of Newport. Wherever you choose to stay on your Isle of Wight hen do, you can make the most of a fantastic range of hen activities, from wine tasting to horse riding, as well as some great sites like Carisbrooke Castle and Shanklin Beach. Whatever you decide to do, the Isle of Wight is a fantastic, striking destination and you'll have a truly memorable weekend.

As well as knowing what you'd prefer in the way of evening entertainment accommodation, GoHen can arrange hotels and self-catering for your hen do according to your individual requirements. The most obvious choice here is sailing - get the girls out for the day on a private yacht on a sunny day with a sexy skipper and enough champagne to sink a battleship! If the timing's right on the Isle of Wight you might even be able to stay on the yacht itself - just let us know what you'd prefer. Then there's the watersports, from whitewater ribbing to surfing and more. If you don't want to get wet however, you landlubbers can enjoy chilled out activities like such as clay shooting and horse riding on your weekend. Whether it's action or pampering, GoHen can make your hen weekend sail - just let us know how we can help! Why not send an enquiry today and give some exact requirements?

Shop: Isle of Wight shopping areas & recommendations

While it's unlikely you'll find a Topshop or H&M on the Isle of Wight, what you will find are small, independent shops selling a beautiful range of products. Shops on the Isle provide a great variety, with many small family-run businesses, stylish boutiques and cosy antique shops with a striking countryside backdrop. In many of the small villages you'll find individual craft outlets and art stores, as well as some great farm shops and cafes. Head to the Cider Barn shops in Godshill and Shanklin for locally made cider, check out The Old Smithy, a former Blacksmith's forge, and tuck in at the Best Dressed Crab in Town in Bembridge on your Isle of Wight hen do.

Stay: Choosing your accommodation

As the largest of the English islands, the Isle of Wight has a range of lodging options for visitors to suit all requirements and budgets and we've sought out the very best ones to offer our hen groups. Our wide selection of Isle of Wight hen accommodation ranges from budget hostels to luxurious 4 star hotels. For a bit more space, how about staying in one of our self-catering properties, or for something totally different we can arrange a sea yacht for you girls to stay on for the weekend! See all of our Isle of Wight accommodation options here.

Party: Where Isle of Wight hen parties head after dark

Although the Isle of Wight isn't best known for its nightlife, there are a few great nightclubs and some excellent pubs and bars. The busiest nightlife tends to be in the larger towns, particularly Ryde and Newport and many of the pubs often have live music on certain nights. To get the evening started we can arrange for you and the hens to tuck into a tasty meal at one of the most group-pleasing restaurants on the island, before you head to some of the best pubs and bars. Whether you're after a fun, social gathering or a cosy evening in a traditional British pub, the striking natural backdrop will make it an evening to remember on your Isle of Wight hen do.

When: The best times to visit the Isle of Wight

The Isle of Wight hosts over a thousand festivals, carnivals, concerts and other events each year! As such it's a fantastic place to celebrate your hen party all year round, and no matter what time of year you go, you can be sure that crowds are clapping somewhere. The main event is the Isle of Wight Festival which is held in June. The Jazz Festival in April attracts hundreds of visitors and the Island's striking surroundings make for an ideal setting for the Cycling Festival in September and the ever-popular Walking Festival in May. No matter when you and the girls have an Isle of Wight hen do, you certainly won't be disappointed as there are exciting events to check out all year round.
