Bars and Pubs

As you'd expect from an Irish city, Cork has a huge number of pubs and bars for visitors to choose from. You're bound to stumble across some friendly bolt-hole wherever you are in the city. If you're looking to begin a big night on the town, Barrack Street is one of the most popular areas in Cork for a drink, with an eclectic mix available, from traditional Irish pubs to vibrant wine and trendy French bars. Oliver Plunkett Street has a similar blend of venues, with some great live music spots too. South Main Street has more by the way of cool alternative watering holes and nightclubs, with an indie, edgy vibe.

Cork Craic

If chugging Guinness in a pub isn't really the thing for your girls, Cork offers up plenty of alternative entertainment once the sun goes down. Hens visiting Cork in October may be lucky enough to see the Cork Jazz Festival, which is the biggest jazz celebration in Europe. And watching some greyhound racing is a big favourite with hens wanting a thrilling evening of suspense and excitement, no matter whether you win or not!

Getting Around Cork

Cork city centre is easily small enough to walk around, so provided you're staying in the area there shouldn't be any need for public transport. Luckily all of GoHen's accommodation is located close to all the bars and clubs and ranges from 4* hotels to comfortable hostels. Between the wide range of prices and the superb location, GoHen can offer your group the perfect place to stay during your Cork hen night. If you do decide to venture out of the city a bit further, there are cabs all around the city - look for cars with stickers saying 'TACSAI' if you're not certain. Alternatively, let GoHen arrange all the transfers your group needs. We'll take care of the logistics, and leave the fun to you!

Cork Clubbing

Cork's nightclub scene isn't the biggest in the world, but the variety of music available more than makes up for the limit in venues. All of Cork's most popular venues contain multiple bars and rooms, so you'll find intimate lounges in the same spot as a thumping dancefloor. There's up-to-the-minute electronica, dance, hip hop, and chart, as well as old favourite anthems from the '70s, '80s and '90s. You'll also find a surprising mix of funk, soul, disco, reggae and Motown, ensuring there really is something for everyone. A couple of the clubs also offer over-21 or over-23 nights.

Cork Tipples

If Cork lacks anything in nightclubs, it more than makes up for it with the generous array of bars and pubs available around the city. The live music scene in Cork is thriving, with a huge array of bars hosting acts every night. Try An Brg or Fred Zepplin for indie/alternative thrashing, as well as a liberal helping of rock and metal, or The Oliver Plunkett for blues, jazz and soul. If you're hoping to catch a few traditional tunes, An Spailpn Fánach or Sin é are as Irish as you can get. There are a few more upmarket and cosmopolitan venues around if your hens like something a little more chic. Suas and Soho are both cocktail bars - Suas' heated rooftop veranda is ideal for sipping a cocktail and toasting to the bride in an ambient, classy setting. Arthur Meyers Pharmacy and Wine Bar has a state of the art wine system that allows you to sample before committing to a bottle - and the platters are great for you and the girls to share for a light dinner. Bar Pigalle on Barrack Street is a stylish little French cocktail and wine bar, and Bodega is one of the most elegant and opulent bars in Cork - and transforms into a vibrant night club later in the evening, so your hen group can party late into the night!

Cork Cuisine

International cuisines have been finding a home in Cork in recent years, with Cajun, European, Asian, Mediterranean and Mexican restaurants springing up all over. The best food by far though is still found in traditional Irish restaurants. The Electric has a good selection of fish and vegetarian dishes, but it's really all about the steak - perfect if you're looking for something substantial to fill you up before you head out. For a comfortable experience in a contemporary setting, try Mabel Crawford's Bistro. And if you're looking to spend a bit more on your meal, try the Ivory Tower Restaurant. It serves a fusion menu of Japanese, Mexican and French dishes, but the Irish tasting menu demonstrates the most delectable and delicious traditional Irish food around. If you're still not sure what to order, just ask GoHen! We can find you restaurants to suit your tastes and budget, as well as do all the booking for you.
