After weeks of wedding planning (and all the spreadsheets that come with it), this is exactly the kind of indulgent pause the bride deserves. An afternoon with her favourite people, drifting along the Thames aboard a beautiful riverboat, tucking into a seriously good afternoon tea - because on a hen weekend, calories don't count… officially.
You'll set off downstream from Folly Bridge, cruising through one of the most picturesque stretches of the river. Along the way, you'll pass the University Regatta Course, Christ Church Meadows and the historic University College Boathouses before gliding towards Iffley Lock.
This is one of Oxford's most vibrant river scenes. Rowing crews power past, punts meander along and pleasure boats create that timeless riverside atmosphere that's played out here for over a century. Passing through Iffley Lock is an experience in itself, and if you're lucky, you might even spot swans, kingfishers, water voles or otters along the banks.
Expect historic buildings, lush green meadows and overhanging willows - all perfect backdrops for those golden-hour photos. (Fun fact: this stretch of river was a favourite of Lewis Carroll.)
And then there's the tea.
Indulge in fabulous finger sandwiches, freshly baked scones with strawberry jam, strawberries and clotted cream, plus dainty cakes, tarts or petit fours, all served with a selection of fine teas. Additional drinks can be purchased at departure if you'd like to elevate things further.
Refined, scenic and just a little bit different - this is a beautifully memorable way to celebrate a sophisticated Oxford hen weekend.
