Star Bars

Bars in Dubai

Imagine a bar in Dubai… yeah, that’s exactly what it’s like! Being a hen in Dubai is life complete. Sipping an expertly crafted cocktail whilst reclining on a stunning rooftop bar? Sounds like heaven - you will wonder how life ever got this good.

Glamour is everything and there’s not a bar in the city that isn’t decked out and finished to perfection. Hens, you’re in drinking heaven!

Of course, the best views are down by the seafront, and around The Palm Jumeirah you’ll find a little hive of bars that, one elevator ride later, will transport you into complete luxury. My oh my, what a happy group of hens you’ll be when you see the impossibly lengthy drinks menus and beyond Insta-worthy sea views.

Sights & Sounds

Best Shops in Dubai

Sights
Where can we begin? Everything in Dubai is worth seeing from weird everyday wonders (air-conditioned bus stops) to the top of the range, jaw dropping mega-malls of the rich and tasteless (best to leave the credit cards in the hotel safe, safely out of temptation).
The beach is a great place to sort out those pre-wedding tans but make sure you're away of the dress codes so you don't cause offence.
Dubai is built on the water and a boat trip is another must to really get a sense of the scale and how much Dubai has been etched into the desert landscape.

Sounds
Dance under the stars (with a few stars) at Pacha. This stunning venue has a great relaxed vibe with great food, fabulous cocktails and even live entertainment. This really is a dream venue, perfect for any big night out.

Shopping in Dubai

Best Shops in Dubai

If you have champagne tastes and lemonade pockets then Karama Market is a great place to go (you can travel by abra - see below). You'll find all kinds of leather foods and trinkets along with a few dodgy 'designer' goods of dubious origin. You can also have a good haggle to get the best price.

On the other side of the tracks you can find the Dubai Mall, perhaps one of the most incredible shopping experiences on the planet. The most exclusive designer brands can all be found here as well as a few more attainable items. Great for window shopping and that 'must have' item you just haven't met yet.

Getting Around Dubai

Even the bus stops in Dubai are fancy and have air conditioning. Not something you're ever likely to find (or need) at your local No27 stop.
Taxis are really cheap but some can seem a little reckless. Fun if you like living dangerously, less entertaining if you're really concerned about getting to your destination in one piece.
The metro over ground train network is really well priced and really clean (like a fancy monorail) while if you want something a little more traditional you can ride on an abra (wooden boat) which will take you to the traditional souks/markets.
One other thing that's good to know is Dubai has one of the lowest crime rates in the world (although like any city, always keep your wits about you and valuables and passports out of view.)

The first rule of Dubai...
Is we have to talk about the rules of Dubai!

Dubai is a hen party paradise! But it does have more conservative values and very strict laws regarding alcohol and public decency. That doesn't mean you can't have a fantastic time. Here's our quick Dubai guide.

Drinking

  • Tourists are allowed to drink alcohol in Dubai if they're within licensed areas. However, it is a punishable offence to drink, or to be under the influence of alcohol in public areas.
  • Alcohol can only be consumed by over 21s. Your passport should serve as ID.

Dress Code

  • You should dress on the conservative side when in public areas. Away from the pool the tops of your arms and legs should be covered.
  • Swimming attire should only be worn on beaches or at swimming pools. So remember to bring something suitable to wear when moving away from the beach or pool.
  • Men are also not allowed to be bare chested away from the beach. So you aren't alone in not being able to soak up the rays while you shop.

Etiquette

  • Swearing is a big no-no, even making rude gestures can land you in trouble, jail and/or deportation. So best to avoid any potty mouth outbursts.
  • Public displays of affection are seen as an offence against public decency and strictly forbidden. Not that you're likely to go snogging your fellow hens.
  • Dancing is only allowed in the privacy of your home or at licensed clubs. So please don't go all ‘Single Ladies' while waiting for that cab.
  • Addressing women in public or taking their photo without permission is strictly frowned upon.

Staying safe

Dubai is an extremely safe destination for women travellers. In fact, the US Department of Diplomatic Security published a report in 2016 giving the city a “low” crime rating and commented that “the crime rate is considerably lower than in most cities throughout the world of similar size”.

However, you can help yourself to avoid unwanted attention by:

  • Don't travel alone at night.
  • Avoid wearing tight or revealing clothes.
  • Only travel in licensed taxis.

All these rules can be a little intimidating, but as long as you follow them and respect this amazing city's culture and traditions you'll have an unforgettable time celebrating the bride-to-be's last weekend as a single lady. If you have any questions, then please don't hesitate to email us or call 01225 474200.
