The Beatles famously once sang “I’ll buy you a diamond ring my friend if it makes you feel alright” and while it’s true that money can’t buy you love, it’s also true that picking out the right wedding jewellery really can add a special touch to your bridal outfit like nothing else can.
To help you find out what’s hot, what’s not and whether diamonds really are forever, we caught up with fabulous jewellers Rox – Diamonds & Thrills and chatted all things weddings and beyond…
Rox… We’ve got a very important question for you…
Will you do us the honour of being our interviewee for today?
Of course, thanks for inviting us to take part!
Brilliant! So, what’s hot in the world of wedding jewellery this year?
Your wedding ring is for life, just like your love! At ROX Diamonds & Thrills, our experts can help you find your perfect ring to represent your partnership. Our New Season collection brings you the latest styles and designs. With our wide range of wedding rings, you are sure to find the perfect rings to say ‘I do’ with.
What’s not? Is there anything couples should avoid?
If you plan on wearing both your engagement and wedding ring after the wedding, then it’s a good idea to rule out any pieces that might clash. White, gold, and yellow gold tend to clash, and different coloured gemstones might look stunning as individual pieces, but some don’t really work side-by-side.
We think we know the answer… But is it true? Are diamonds really forever?
Nothing can tarnish a diamond – they are the hardest substance known to man. As other gemstones fall in and out of fashion, diamonds sparkle with a radiance that’s everlasting. Their durability, their sheen, the way they can disperse light – they’re a truly awe-inspiring mineral.
What’s the most common mistake you hear about couples making in the build-up to the big day?
Not thinking beyond the wedding day is a common one. You might not wear your wedding dress or shoes beyond the big day, but why not choose jewellery that will look just as amazing with other outfits? Choosing pieces that match your style will help make sure that you wear them again, making the most of your budget.
What are your top three wedding tips?
- Shop early: People are often unaware of how much wedding bands cost, so shopping for them before you’ve stretched your budget should allow you to consider more options.
- Gather inspiration: Keep an eye out for pieces you like, and try bringing some inspirational images with you to give your jeweller an idea of where to start.
- Go back to the source: The store where your engagement ring was bought is a good place to look for wedding rings.
Aside from the rings, what other pieces of jewellery should we be wearing down the aisle? Earrings? Necklaces? Watches? Help!
Consider the style of your dress – what types of jewellery will compliment it? If you’re tying the knot in a statement or detailed dress, then simple pieces are the way to go as you’ll want to avoid drawing attention away from the dress. Drop earrings or simple studs make for glowing beauty shots!
For complete wedding newbies, do you have any advice for guys looking to buy the perfect engagement ring for their (hopefully) soon-to-be fiancé?
From the cut and clarity of the diamond, to its colour and carat, there’s a lot to take in before you make the decision to buy.
So how much should a man be spending on the engagement ring?
There are no hard and fast rules here, but make sure you’re being realistic about what you can comfortably afford. If you have the money, it may be worth spending a little bit extra on your top choice – after all, engagement rings are for life.
Spending all day looking at diamond rings sounds like a dream, so what’s the best part about your job?
Knowing that we’ve contributed towards making the big day that little bit more special!
You can tell us, we won’t tell a soul, honest… What’s the worst song you’ve heard played for the first dance/walking down the aisle/other?
That’s a tough one! Couples have chosen really good music at all the weddings we’ve been to. If we had to choose, we’d probably give “Puppy Love” a miss, as played in Love Actually!
Any final parting words of bridal wisdom?
If choosing your jewellery is proving more difficult than finding the dress, you might need to focus your search. Find one piece you absolutely love, and match your accessories to that.
