newlyweds desperate to find lost memory cards containing wedding photos - 02/09/2010

TWO newlyweds are calling for help to find six missing memory cards containing more than 1,000 treasured snaps of their big day.

Lucy and Graeme Boynton were married on Sunday at the idyllic Reeds Hotel, Barton-Upon-Humber, in front of 50 guests.

After the speeches and, despite frantic searches, the photographer told the groom he had misplaced the pouch containing six memory cards, holding about 1,000 images.

Graeme, 27, of Hull, said: "I cannot say what my reaction was, but my heart dropped massively.

"As soon as I found out we got 15 of us together to retrace out steps."

He said: "We searched in a line like a police forensic team and we even went back the following morning, searching in the ditches and everything.

"We also feel bad for the photographer because we're not just a client, we're his friends. Obviously, it was an accident."

Lucy, 23, of Willoughby, Hull, said: "We would like to hear from anybody who might have seen it or found it."

During this strike period British Airways expects to fly more than 75 per cent of customers who hold a booking between June 5 and June 9. This equates to more than 65,000 customers flying each day.

BA keeps the flag flying - 25/05/2010

British Airways has underlined its defiance to break the cabin crew strikes by painting a ‘keep the flag flying’ slogan across the fuselages of a number of its aircraft.
The message was placed on ten Boeing 777s at Heathrow and two at Gatwick, as members of Unite began the second day of a five-day strike.
More than 60,000 customers will travel with BA every day this week despite the industrial action, the airline said in a statement.
BA was forced to cancel three of its Heathrow to New York flights yesterday. Other cancellations included four Heathrow-Paris flights, five of the nine Heathrow-Milan services and two Heathrow-Madrid flights.
Domestic services were more severely hit as the airline waged on travellers seeking overland alternatives. These included 15 flights between Heathrow and Manchester.

latest update - volcano & travel disruptions UPDATE - 20/04/2010
NATS Statement on Icelandic volcanic eruption: Tuesday April 20, 0900

The situation regarding the volcanic eruption in Iceland remains dynamic and the latest information from the Met Office shows that the situation today will continue to be variable.

Based on the latest Met Office information, part of Scottish airspace including Aberdeen, Inverness and Edinburgh airports will continue to be available from 1300-1900 today, and also south to Newcastle Airport. Restrictions will remain in place over the rest of UK airspace below 20,000ft.

Overnight the CAA, in line with new guidance from the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) decided flights above the ash cloud will be permitted in the UK; between 1300-1900 this will enable aircraft movements above 20,000ft in UK airspace.

We will continue to monitor Met Office information and the situation is likely to change during the course of the day. We will make a further statement at approximately 1500.

NATS is maintaining close dialogue with the Met Office and with the UK's safety regulator, the CAA, in respect of the international civil aviation policy we follow in applying restrictions to use of airspace.

We are working closely with Government, airports and airlines, and airframe and aero engine manufacturers to get a better understanding of the effects of the ash cloud and to seek solutions.

The European Organisation for the Safety of Air Navigation (EUROCONTROL) posted the following statement. Their next update is expected at 12.30.

Statement on Icelandic volcanic eruption: Monday, April 19, 1245 (local)
The Met Office advises that the Eyjafjallajoekull volcano is now less active than previously. NATS advises that the current restrictions across UK controlled airspace due to the volcanic ash cloud will remain in place until at least 0100 (local) on Tuesday 20th April.

Conditions around the movement of the layers of the volcanic ash cloud over the UK remain dynamic. We will continue to monitor the location of this ash cloud and look for opportunities to get aircraft moving again, whilst of course maintaining safety.

In the meantime, we continue to work closely with Government, airports and airlines, and airframe and aero engine manufacturers to get a better understanding of the effects of the ash cloud and to seek solutions.

Anyone hoping to travel should contact their airline before traveling to the airport.
