Sights & Sounds
If there's ever going to be a Mecca for wine-loving hens then The Old Vine is surely going to be it. This is the oldest surviving grape vine in the world, and every year the people of Maribor hold a ceremonial harvest of the grape in celebration of this city's thriving wine culture. You can take a sunlit walk along the river Drava to reach the vine, before exploring the historic house on which it grows.
Maribor's bright young things don't mix much with the students of the city; instead they all convene in the effortlessly stylish Papagayo Lounge. This bar and club is relaxed to the max while providing plenty of opportunities for girls to shut up and dance!
Fuego had us salsa dancing all night long with a marvellous mojito in hand. This Latino club is seriously funky and it's where all of Maribor's fun-loving twenty-something's go to par-tay!
In the Diary
June - Festival Lent. Take to the banks of the Drava River to celebrate the coming of summer with the locals with plenty of dancing and music.
September - Old Vine Festival. So nice we had to mention it twice! Celebrate the coming together of girl and grape - this is some of the best stuff we've tasted.
September - Festival Maribor. Do you know your Mozart from your Chopin? Or perhaps you're under the impression that baby's got Bach? Find out in this fabulous festival of classical music!
November - St Martin's Day. Another wine festival, not that we're complaining - although this one does feature a beautiful baptism of cider - Oo-er!
