Galway Guide

Galway, located in beautiful West Ireland, is a thriving city on the coast where you can shop, eat, drink, walk, swim and party to your heart’s content. It’s the ideal for any hen party who want a breath of fresh air and a good change from the big hen destinations in the UK. Here’s our guide to everything you need to know about this pretty Irish city.

Entertainment Venues

Druid Theatre

This trendy and quirky venue is famous for giving a break to young Irish playwrights to showcase their work and is well worth a visit for theatre fans. It’s built in an old tea warehouse and was renovated as recently as 2009.

Town Hall Theatre

This venue is a little more traditional and plays host to various performances of comedy, music, theatre and dance from touring as well as local companies.

Eye Cinema

If you fancy spending a relaxing weekend with your girlfriends, what could be better than an evening at the cinema? All the latest releases are shown here and you’ll find it in the Wellpark Retail Park. Plus, it’s locally owned and run, which means that you’ll get a true Galway experience.

Top of the Shops

Galway is a great place to shop. All the big high street brands are here but why visit those that you can at home too? We’ve put together a list of our top shopping picks in the area for you to try out when you’re in town!

Charlie Byrne’s

Having just celebrated its 25th anniversary, this fantastic book shop isn’t going anywhere fast. It’s Ireland’s favourite bookshop and the ideal place to bring a bookworm bride to be. Selling everything from bargain reads for a single Euro to brand new releases and rare books, it’s a gorgeous shop which simply must not be missed.

Thomas Claddagh Gold

When a shop has its own museum round the back, you know it’s been around for a while. Thomas Claddagh is in fact Ireland’s oldest jewellery shop and has been in business since 1750. Treat yourself to some of the finest Irish gold, or just give them a good stare – it’s free, after all.

P. Powell and Sons Music

This is a real institution in Galway and here you can pick up a variety of instruments, both mainstream and traditionally Irish. Great for a browse around and would of course be a dream come true for any music mad bride to be.

Because the best things in life are free…

Need to stretch your legs and blow those cobwebs away? A wander around Rinville Park will certainly do the trick and is a beautiful waterside treat when the sun shines.
