Bars and Pubs

The main party hotspots to head for on a Paris hen night are the Champs-Elyseés area and the streets surrounding the Bastille, a large roundabout which encircles the tall Bastille monument. There are countless quirky and themed venues to try out, which are typical of the cool French attitude to partying - Mr. J.D Wetherspoon is most certainly not welcome here! Ave Maria on 1 Rue de Jacquard is a psychedelic dream full of kitsch Virgin Mary idols and bright Hindu goddesses which serves up delicious Himalayan food and cocktails, or colourful Café Bonnie, whose walls are decorated with cult pop art prints, Hollywood faces and bright pieces of art. Oh, and so many delicious, original cocktails, you'll be all mixed up when it's time to decide! Le Floors on Rue Myrha changes its house cocktail every day and is housed in a striking, pretty art deco building or head to The Wall if you fancy a cold beer in a chilled out environment for some of the best prices in the city and a great selection.

Getting Around Paris

Divided into no less than 20 numbered districts, Paris is a large, sprawling capital city which doesn't favour cars in its centre, so the best way to get around on your Paris hen night is on foot, meaning that you and the girls can take in the famous sights as you travel and the Metro for longer distances when you don't fancy navigating the streets. The Paris underground system works much like the London Tube and tickets are 1.70 for any 1-way trip. Although it's great for longer journeys, if you only need to travel along one or two stops, walking is highly recommended, as it actually ends up taking less time! Catch trains between 5am and 12.30am or up to 1.30 am on Saturdays, so you may even be able to travel after your bar or club night is over. Sometimes only a taxi will do when you're wearing towering heels and the Parisian weather isn't holding up and luckily, cabs are cheap in this city and the roads far less congested at night. If you don't fancy the stress of navigating Paris by night, we can offer any transfers you might need when you pre-book and because our accommodation options are really well located, right next to all the best nightlife hotspots, getting out and about is a cinch.

Music and Moves

Expect to find a really wide range of music on offer in quirky clubs on your Paris hen night and plenty that's a little different to the usual dance and club hits which are played all over the UK and Europe. Although the city boasts many huge ‘superclub' efforts, plenty of the coolest bars in town transform themselves into clubs as impromptu dance-floors form before your eyes after hours, so you might not even have to put down your mojito to have a good old boogie! Something else to consider when clubbing in Paris are the strict dress codes enforced by many establishments, somewhat typical of this stylish, fashion-obsessed city. If you feel like staying more casual though, dance bars are your best bet. Nod along to cool, electro music, get down to some sultry South American beats which are often live in the Latin Quarter or get trendy in the boho Pigalle part of town on a Paris hen night, where you can listen to cool Indie music and avoid the tourists. The Bastille area is the main party go-to - get down to chart hits, cheesy Europop, dance and even live music or if you're in the market for something a little more retro, the 70s tones in Queen Club at Champs-Elysées should hit the spot.

Drinking in Paris

It's no secret that cool and collected Parisians love to enjoy a glass or two of quality wine in the evening and aren't strangers to seriously cool cocktails and spirits - you'll be hard-pressed to find a Jgerbomb or WKD in this stylish, gourmet city! It won't come as any surprise then that the sheer volume of seriously cool bars and delicious drinks on offer in Paris is nothing short of mind-boggling. Visiting the French capital is the perfect opportunity to try out some totally new and different drinks and we'd highly recommend the hip Experimental Cocktail Club on Rue St. Sauveur. Thought of as a Michelin starred restaurant of the bar world, the menu is truly incredible and their original mixes and classics made with fresh, top-quality ingredients by experts are both delicious, surprising and totally cutting edge. Sip on a ‘Bee's Kiss' for example, made from Jamaican rum, cream, organic honey and pepper whilst you tap along to the strains of fashionable French jazz. Le Crocodile on rue Royer-Collard is a real experience too, with an insane 300 cocktails on their books! Everybody knows how fantastic Le Crocodile is however, so expect a friendly mixed crowd, great music, a buzzing bar where you'll have to jostle for a place and bizarrely named (but delicious-tasting) drinks, such as the ‘Go Barefoot' and the ‘Pencil Pusher'. Make sure you visit between 6 and 8pm for happy hour when all cocktails are 6 and then 9 after that and as a super-cute extra, all cocktails come with gummy bears as standard! And finally, we could hardly talk about a Paris hen night without mentioning absinthe - not for the faint of heart, the once-banned ‘green fairy' hovers around the 70% proof mark and is traditionally served with water and sugar. Give it a go if you're feeling brave, just remember to drink responsibly.

Dining in Paris

Paris is one of the most gastronomic cities in the entire world, so you certainly won't have any trouble finding a place to eat whichever quarter you're in! As it has the highest amount of Michelin starred restaurants in any city outside Tokyo, high-end eats, haute cuisine and fine dining is most certainly the order of the day. However, there's still plenty on offer to suit a tighter budget, from the quality French cuisine which Parisians are so proud of to meals from around the world. High quality dining is so prized by the French, that you can be sure every dish you try will be nothing less than a taste sensation!

Once you're finished gorging yourselves on dainty macarons, incredible pastries and gooey crepes throughout the day, it's time for some hearty fare to set you and the girls up for a night of drinking and dancing. Moules frites, or steamed mussels and chips as we know it, is a delicious classic French dish available all over the city, as well as traditional love or hate snails which have to be tried at least once and raw steak tartar for those who are feeling brave! Choose from Thai, Italian, Middle Eastern, Vietnamese or Caribbean amongst many, many others if you fancy a taste of something a little more exotic, but stick to traditional cuisine for the best quality and atmosphere.

Café Constant on Rue Saint-Dominique is worth an honourable mention, serving up tasty, simple bistro fare and a ‘floating island' meringue and custard dessert which simply cannot be missed or hit up local favourite Le Coupe-Chou in the Latin Quarter, which offers delicious, traditional French cuisine in an impossibly romantic 17th century building. Could anything be more quintessentially Parisian? Although not everyone will speak English in Paris, it's a huge, bustling city popular with travellers, so you'll always be close to someone who can help you out. In the meantime however, ‘je voudrais' (I would like), ‘vegetarian' (vegetarian) and ‘l'addition' (the bill) may prove useful.

Dining out in Paris with a group can be tricky and more than a little intimidating because there's so much choice and all of the best restaurants and bistros tend to be packed out or fully booked and very crowded year round. Luckily, we at GoHen know all the very best spots inside out, so that you can pre-book a delicious traditional French meal in one of many restaurants across the city for a great price, meaning that you get to stay stress-free and keep everyone happy. C'est Délicieux!
