The Drive-by Vegas Wedding Wagon

Calling all brides on a £64 budget- you’re in luck! A new and somewhat bizarre idea has hit Vegas – the wedding wagon. It’s essentially a minister-equipped van that drives to the happy couple and marries them curb side (weather permitting) in 10 minutes for $99.

Aptly named the ‘Las Vegas Wedding Wagon’ the idea is the innovation of Andy Gonzalez and James Cass (“Reverend Andy” and “Reverend James”). Wanting to escape the corporate world last year they had a brainstorm and did some market research, finding out that 7000 to 9000 weddings get performed in Vegas every month. The Vegas wedding market was crowded though – there’s already Elvis weddings, stripper weddings and drive-through weddings.

They decided that a mobile, ‘we-deliver’ wedding would be novel. “We both saw the potential” Gonzalez told, “There could be real money here.” The only problem for the ambitious duo was that they weren’t actually able to marry people, so they headed online to the American Marriage Ministries and acquired their authority as ministers. They also looked into whether they could get a license for such a service and what kind of vehicle might be appropriate.

While mulling over whether to go ahead with this idea, a sign appeared: “The Hangover Bus” Gonzalez said, “We were saying, ‘should we pull the trigger?’ and then we saw that story about the Hangover Bus. When we saw that we said ‘Anything is possible’”. The Hangover bus is another new mobile service and is a bus that drives up and down the Las Vegas Strip offering intravenous hangover cures to drunk and hung-over people.

When it comes to the pairs views they are a little vague; “We’re kind of non-denominational” Gonzalez told, “We did a wedding Friday for a couple who wanted an Apache prayer added.” When asked if there are any types of people that the pair won’t marry he added that they draw the line at first cousins.

The entrepreneurs believe that the Wedding Wagon will earn them as much as they made in the corporate world, when and if they are marrying four to six couples a day (or more if it catches on…). “We’ve got so little overheads” Gonzalez explained, “We’re not a brick-and-mortar chapel.” The duo performed their first wedding last week and have so far married four couples.

If you’re looking for all the fun of Vegas for your hen party without the slightly depressing sight of people getting married at the side of the road sad then head over to Manchester or Barcelona for an unforgettable hen do, or check out the list of other fabulous destinations GoHen have on offer!
