Wiltshire hens take on triathlon challenge
Instead of the usual hen party activities, some Wiltshire lasses decided that they would celebrate by getting sweaty and raising some money in the process. The eleven cheery women completed a half-triathlon and raised £1000 for Mencap.
Vicki Martin, the bride-to-be, was the one to come up with this great (yet slightly bonkers) idea and she chivvied her hens into action. Miss Martin’s cousin has fragile x syndrome which means he has the mental age of a child; Mencap fund his college education, and it’s this that spurred the hens into taking charitable action.
The group swam 40 lengths in Westbury swimming pool, did a 16-mile bicycle ride to the Black Horse pub in Devizes (and remarkably didn’t stop for a pick-me-up) before finishing off with a four-mile run on the towpath to the Bridge Inn at Horton. The task took them three-and-a-half hours and certainly created a hen do to remember!
The bride-to-be afterwards told “We just kept going and we are very pleased with ourselves for doing it“. The women practised for nine months before completing the challenge, with some training sessions being held in pouring rain, so they were prepared for the rain that hit them on the day.
We’re loving the spirit of these active hens – toning up before the big day is a winner as well as having some giggles with your girls. If you’re in the mood for a hilarious, energetic time with the girls on your hen party why not try out some blo karting or ringos?
