Wedding world record set … by dogs
In New York on Thursday the world’s most expensive wedding occurred, for dogs! The pooches broke the Guinness world record for the most expensive pet wedding in history after walking down the aisle (our invite must’ve got lost in the post!)
Baby Hope Diamond (a tiny Coton de Tulear) and Chilly Pasternak (a tie-dyed poodle) were united in holy matrimony by Triumph (the Insult Comic Dog) with help from Triumphs ‘voice’ comedian Robert Smigel. Nearly 300 guests turned up, each forking out a fortune to attend the event, which cost a whopping total of $270,000. “This was the sweetest and most beautiful animal benefit in history” Wendy Diamond, Baby Hope’s owner, said. There was a $6,000 custom-made wedding dress for the bride, $30,000 worth of flowers, a $5,000 sushi spread and a seven piece orchestra costing $15,000. “I am happy to announce that this is the most expensive pet wedding in history,” said Sara Wilcox, a Guinness World Records adjudicator, confirming that it easily blew the previous record which was a $16,421 ceremony for two cats in Thailand.
To celebrate the blessed event, the pups enjoyed a buffet of all-natural dog treats while their owners and guests dug into a five-tiered wedding cake topped by a model bisou. In total the event raised $50,000 for the Humane Society of New York and included the vow sentiment of “Baby Hope, do you take this pooch to love, not spend the night with, and advocate for animal welfare as long as you both shall live? If so, breathe heavily,” said by Triumph, “and do you, Chilly, take this purse jockey to be your wife? Katie Holmes is back on the market, and I don’t think it would be any weirder than her first marriage! If so, sweat through your tongue. I now pronounce you dog and bitch.”
We love both the cuteness and the strangeness (only in America!) of the wedding – a little bit more love in the world has to be a good thing! If you’re inspired to join Baby Hope and Chilly in the world of unusual events, why not make your hen do a unique and a-little-bit-different? As well as energetic, unusual activities like circus skills we’ve got some crazy-yet-hilarious ones like our inflatable games and sumo wrestling!
